Alta Professional Insurance Services Agency, LLC, (Alta Pro) provides innovative, intelligent, professional insurance underwriting, claims, risk management, product development, and sales and marketing services to our clients using state of the art information technology. A Brief History of Alta Pro

Alta Pro was formed by Pam Allen in 2004. Pam has had over 40 years of underwriting and management experience in the commercial insurance industry, progressing from start-ups of company branches to start-ups of small insurance companies, with several turn-arounds of divisions, programs, and a company along the way. She created Alta Pro, an insurance industry services provider specializing in the underwriting of professional liability and program business and committed to the support and promotion of the independent agency system. She brought together a team of highly experienced professional liability underwriters that forms the foundation of the organization.

Pam Allen

Founder, CEO

Pam Allen’s career has been a string of “firsts”.  Valedictorian of her high school class, she was the first in her family to attend college, graduating from the University of Michigan with honors.  Upon graduation, she was the first woman casualty underwriting trainee in Royal Globe’s Detroit regional office.  She started the first Michigan casualty operation for Commerce & Industry (AIG), earning a promotion to branch manager.  

In 1985 she worked to start up the underwriting operation that became North Pointe Insurance Company, ultimately sold to QBE.  In 1990 she joined Meadowbrook Insurance Group to start their professional liability underwriting unit, progressing to management of all underwriting operations, including public entity, medical professional, lawyers professional, accountants professional, and workers compensation programs.  She joined Michigan Lawyers Mutual in 1996 to manage underwriting and operations, designing and implementing a plan to increase the company’s surplus by 100% in five years.  

She formed Alta Pro in 2004 to provide professional liability underwriting, risk management and insurance services for lawyers and other professionals.  With over 40 years of underwriting and management experience in the insurance industry, she has assembled a motivated team of insurance professionals, each with decades of insurance experience and specialization in professional liability.  Throughout her career, Pam has specialized in the development and implementation of successful insurance programs.  Her expertise in underwriting, reinsurance, alternative risk, and specialty program management expands the level of products and services that Alta Pro offers their insurance company and agency partners.

Debbie Ramos

J.D., CPCU, Vice President, Underwriting

Debbie Ramos, J.D., C.P.C.U., is Alta Pro’s Vice President of Underwriting, with over 23 years of lawyers professional liability insurance underwriting, program management, and agency experience.  A longtime member of the Texas State Bar, Debbie is based in Dallas, Texas, and has developed and underwritten successful LPL programs nationwide. 

Her career includes experience as an insurance agent as well as a wholesale broker, so Debbie understands all sides of the insurance industry and knows firsthand the challenges that agents and brokers face.  She appreciates that agents have the hardest job in the insurance business.  As a lawyer, she understands the risks that lawyers face and as an underwriter, she knows how to evaluate those risks.  Under Debbie’s leadership, the Alta Pro underwriting team continues our commitment to intelligent underwriting, building valuable expertise and providing excellent customer service to our agency and company partners.   

Lynn Hopkins

CIC, Cyber Program Development

Lynn joined Alta Pro in 2014, and her focus has been on expanding Alta Pro’s programs beyond our historical emphasis on professional liability. In her business development role, she has been focused on development and implementation of our industry leading cyber liability insurance programs. 

Lynn brings over 25 years of insurance industry experience, starting her career as an inside sales professional, and progressing through sales and management positions to national sales manager for a large P&C insurer, as well as experience as a wholesale broker. Lynn understands first hand that insurance agents have the hardest job in the insurance industry, and she works to provide Alta Pro’s agency partners with innovative products and superior service.

Todd Mapes

Vice President, Business Development

Todd joined Alta Pro in 2019, adding to our executive bench strength.  He brings decades of executive experience developing and managing sales teams at national and international levels.  Coming from the tech industry, his perspective and knowledge have helped not only Alta Pro, but also our agency partners to improve their online marketing and business development.  He has developed and implemented a training program for our underwriting team to improve our already good agency relationships.  

Under his management, Alta Pro Risk Purchasing Group offers state of the art online webinars approved for CLE credit.  He has curated and negotiated discounts with key vendors to the benefit of our RPG members.  His contributions toward the development of Alta Pro’s proprietary SAKU underwriting platform have resulted in improved customer experience and added value.  He brings to our Alta Pro team a unique perspective, expertise, and insight regarding the critical role cutting edge technology will play in the future of the insurance industry. 

Daniel Allen

Vice President, Information Technology

Dan has been responsible for Alta Pro’s commitment to state of the art technology since before he joined Alta Pro.  On his advice, Alta Pro was one of the earliest adopters of MS Small Business Server when we opened shop in 2004.  Dan has guided Alta Pro in making intelligent, cost effective investments in technology to improve productivity and support our carrier partners’ data requirements. 

Through his efforts, Alta Pro captures and provides the data that forms the basis of our actuarial analysis and the foundation of our analytics capability.  His understanding of the insurance operations and data requirements of superior program administration have led him to design and develop SAKU, a cloud based underwriting platform Alta Pro will deploy in the third quarter of 2020.  We are excited about the improved productivity, unlimited data capture, analytics and predictive modeling capabilities that SAKU will bring to Alta Pro and our company partners.  

Agency Marketing Services

In addition to our program offerings, Alta Pro provides marketing services to our agency partners. Alta Pro is licensed for surplus lines, so we can provide “one stop shopping” for our agency partners. Our goal is to create a mechanism for multi-level partnerships with independent agents throughout the Midwest. Our agency partners who take advantage of our Agency Marketing Services have access to experienced marketing professionals and underwriters who can place almost any commercial risk.
